About the project
The new Martinus bookstore in Michalovce offers a unique combination of literature, culture, and design. The interior is designed as an experiential space for readers that inspires, surprises, and literally draws them into the stories of books.
The dominant features of the space are the atmospheric book ceiling, an oversized typewriter as a tribute to the poet Pavel Horov, and a large-format, life-size bookmark. The children's section with painted houses brings playfulness and imagination, while the café offers a quiet place for reading and meeting people.
The design is based on a combination of wood, metal, and ambient lighting, which creates a warm and inspiring atmosphere. Every element of the space has its own story—from symbolic details to the architectural concept of the whole.
The project was created in fair and open cooperation with the client Martinus, who has long been transferring its corporate culture to retail. The result is a space that people describe as a "book paradise" — a place where culture meets modern design.
